Deano and Jones (o)

Posted in People, Places with tags on April 25, 2009 by thecatcanwait

Last home game of the season versus Morecombe. St James Park full to capacity. A win might have put Exeter straight up. But as it turned out they could only manage a 2-2 draw.

At the end Player of the Season (Jones) greets Hero of every Season (Deano Moxey)

Deano and Joneseo have had a good season (April 09)

Confounding my pessimistic predictions Exeter have done well, very well.

And if they win their final game away to Rotherham next Saturday they will go up

We need a bit of Deano magic (and Jonesey to keep a clean sheet)

Shooting birds

Walking around Stover Park. A bird spotters paradise.

And all the big guns come out (to shoot the birds with)

Shall we kill this swan with our cameras (April 09)

Is this overkill or what?! (The guy on the left was bragging about how many thousands of pounds his equipment had cost)

I’ve noticed guys seem to go for big cameras; dangling their big lenses everywhere.

And there was me with my diddy little Cybershot!

Doing no harm at all……(Lol)

Piglet died

In Newton Abbot cemetery i saw this

Makes a change from the usual angel sentiments.

This baby girl died during the Second World War aged 6 months.

A little piggy piglet.

I smiled.

(and of course i was sad too)

This be Buckie Races

A Point-to-Point Meet in Buckfastleigh

this-be-buckie-races-feb-091

We had £1 bets on every race.

I won £3.50 on “Rock with the Caveman”.

One horse wouldn’t stop running.

Half of Dartmoor was there.

This picture captures the friendly familiarity i felt

“Aboud taim fur ma mare tu gid ur skades on”

i think Uncle Ted is saying to Uncle Bob.

To Love, or Not to Love

Valentines day on a dull day in Plymouth.

reading-a-book-on-valentines-day-feb-09

Without love in existence for you, you are resigned to solitary compensations; sat alone outside Cafe Roma reading a big fat book (on “Post Modernist Conceptions of the Utilitarian Valence of… Valentine’s Day” say….Lol)

Or maybe love is in existence for you and looks like this:

valentines-day-love-feb-093A chunky black guy clung on to his  fat “babe”.

There was something slightly “special needs” about them.

Or maybe they were just being chavvy lovey dovey dopey.

They luv one another so much – he’ll get her pregnant in a minute, and they’ll end up living in a rubbish council flat in St Budeaux.

Claiming benefits.

Then he’ll leave her.

Or get sent to prison.

For beating her up.

Or dealing crack.

Oh dear.

Oh well.

Make of lurv what you will while it lasts.

It’s what makes the merry go round go round.

Dead jay

Posted in Animals, People with tags , on February 7, 2009 by thecatcanwait

Big blue feathered bird dead in the gutter.

I picked it up and placed it on the wall. A man with his young daughter passed. “It’s a jay that is” he said

zoo-004-1

“I used to shoot them when i was younger, but not now – we gotta save them otherwise we’ll lose them”

It got hit by a car. Maybe it was flying low across. Or looking for a drink.

The daughter touched delicately it’s beautiful blue wings – the colour of a bright blue summer day. But now all too sadly drably dead.

Dead as winter.

Down the path came a dwarf

blah blah blah

He was walking his big dog

A little shitsu…Lol (sorry i shouldn’t be dwarfist)

He works in the town chip shop. Altho you hardly ever see him. He’s behind underneath the counter usually.

I said hello. He said hello back.

In quite a large voice.

Nil nil against Bury

There’s our Deano giving his adoring fans a clap as the teams troop out for the kick-off.

sp_a0013-1

He’s been injured for a few weeks.

Exeter are going thro a mini slump (haven’t won in 3 games)

In the first half they were playing against a strong gusting wind. Bury – or “Buhreh” as the handful of away fans were singing – were all over them.

In the second half it was a more even contest, but ended up as a 0-0 draw. I’ve yet to see City play a good game this season.

As usual i was looking at other things other than the game. Like the family in front of me; 2 boys with mom and dad. A nice middle-class family unit. Wife was continually chattering into her husbands left ear. He was continually smiling. They clapped alot. Seemed to be into it. Enjoying their family footie on a Saturday afternoon.

Its a family club is Exeter.

Cap’n Jaspers

Here’s the “world famous for fine food” Cap’n Jaspers on the Barbican, Plymouth.

plymouth-043-11

“Fine food” i wouldn’t call it. We’re in “half a yard of hot dog” and “cheddar porker” territory here. Cheap mugs of sugary tea.

Just what you need on a cold winter day. Altho not such a cold day today; hence i noticed: dirty onions, over-fried egg, slightly stale bread. With icy cold fingers and frozen feet i’d have gobbled it all up with glee.

Bikers hang out is Cap’n Jaspers. Showing off their big bad shiny machines.

Stood up the wall were these 2 redoubtable “characters”

plymouth-049-1

Off their bikes they look, er – comical?

I especially like the dangle on that pipe. You don’t see blokes smoking pipes these days. Gives off just the right kind of uncool oddness. Deliberate fuck-off affectation.

Sitting in the cold sun at St James’s Park

Posted in People, Places with tags on December 29, 2008 by thecatcanwait

Yesterday the “lads” played Brentford.

It was a bright, brilliant afternoon.

exeter-073-1

Players had to shield their eyes from the sharp setting sun.

Fans in the Big Bank couldn’t see much either (see pic below)

The sun was as sharp as it was cold. Oddly, all the players were in short sleeves – except for one: the enigma that is Ryan Harley.

exeter-077-1

He seems to be the player the Exeter crowd love to hate. Probably cus he appears so lethargic, as if he isn’t trying hard enough. In contrast to Manny Panther (also in pic) who runs all over the place like a nonstop dynamo. The crowd like his “get stuck in” attitude.

It felt like Brentford were creating too many chances, and that eventually they must score – and they did, thro a disputed penalty (all penalties are disputed come to think of it) Then they scored again. 2-0, job done. Fair enough.

I’ve seen Exeter 4 times this season; they lost twice, drew a drab draw, and one fortuitious win with a last-gasp winner from Deano (who wasn’t playing today) I don’t get how they can be so high up in the table – i don’t see any evidence that they’re a promotion chasing team. Look very average to me.

Anyway. I always seem to enjoy going – win, lose, or draw.

The Big Bank were doing alot of chanting and clapping: “We’re the red and white army, we’re the red and white army” sung over and over again. The colder it got the more they chanted “We’re the red and white army”, the louder they clapped “We’re the red and white army”.

exeter-075-1

I think they were trying to combust themselves into a fire.

It was all about that sun today. And how cold it was. Sitting there with 6,700 other people freezing your bollocks off. And Xmas over with (thank god)

Sometimes, the result, even the football itself, seems kind of irrelevant.
